Education provides a wonderful platform for the growth and success of an individual with a positive impact on the society as well as the nation at large”. In 1960s, quotes like these inspired a lady residing in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, who envisioned a bright future for the young minds of India. She wanted to pave the way for every child in the community to acquire proper social values, leadership qualities and excellence in his/her respective field of study. This lady was Mrs.Buvana Krishnan, the founder of S.V.M and B.K.M Group of Schools
In spite of the fact that she was born in a financially mediocre but highly conservative family she was very bold and courageous. Being a member of Lioness Club, All India Women’s Association and Royapettah Magalir Manram, she made a name in the cause of empowerment of women and education to the children belonging to the lower socio-economic strata resulting in the establishment of a children’s school in 1961 with nursery and primary sections.
Soon by dint of her hard work, perseverance, dedication, cooperation of the parents, teachers and above all by the Grace of Almighty, the school was recognized as a Matriculation School in 1974 by the University of Madras. The school was duly upgraded as a Higher Secondary School by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1978 and named thereafter as Sree Venkateshwarar Matriculation Higher Secondary School (S.V.M.H.S.S)
This educational institution expanded to nearby areas initiating a branch at Kelambakkam (Kanchipuram District) in 1988 and then at Tiruporur, in 1999, both named after the founder Mrs. Buvana Krishnan. The branch schools were built and managed under the able guidance and support of the present Correspondent Mrs. Vedha Srinivasan, wife of Late Dr.K. Srinivasan and daughter-in-law of Mrs. Buvana Krishnan.
